Fourteen year-old Kyle McDonald is Page Middle School's Academic All-Star for the 2010-2011 school year. Administrators chose Kyle because of his hard work in the classroom and his commitment to his studies. While it's no surprise to those who know him, Kyle says he was not expecting to receive such an award. "It feels good to know that I've been chosen as an Academic All-Star," said Kyle. "It's really an honor to be recognized." |
Outside of school, Kyle loves to play soccer and says he plans to try out for Page High School's soccer team next year. As for his future plans, Kyle says he hopes to go to college and maybe one day be an accountant. "I think it would be a good job because I'm really good at math and I like working with numbers," said Kyle. "I also looked it up and saw where you can earn lots of money as an accountant." |

Katie Zeman is a remarkable student who sets herself apart from the crowd with her positive attitude and a dedication to learning. That's why administrators at Sunset Elementary School chose Katie to be their Academic All-Star for the 2010-11 school year. Katie began attending Sunset Elementary in first grade and says her favorite thing about the school would have to be the teachers. "I really like my teachers here," said Katie. "They're really nice and they help me out when I need it." |
Katie says she likes learning about all sorts of things, but her favorite subject is math. "I like math because you don't have to memorize a bunch of names and dates," said Katie. "It's fun because you just learn how to do it." When she's not at school, Katie likes to hang out with her friends and play volleyball. Having just completed fifth grade, Katie says she looks forward to attending Sunset Middle School next year so that she can try out for the volleyball team. |

Woodland Middle School's Casey Shi is a model student whose dedication to her studies has impressed both her teachers and peers. That's why Casey was recently chosen to be Woodland Middle School's Academic All-Star. Having just completed seventh grade, Casey says she's excited to return to Woodland Middle school next year. "I really like it here," said Casey. "The teachers are really nice and helpful and I've made a lot of really great friends." |
Not only is Casey a wonderful student, she's also a competitive ice skater. Casey practices before school and says she enjoys being part of such a unique sport. "I started ice skating about three years ago," said Casey. "Not a lot of people do it and it can be really exhilarating." Casey says she hasn't exactly decided what she wants to be when she grows up, but she does have a few ideas. "I just know that I want to make a difference in the world," said Casey. "I might like to do something in terms of alternative energy or wildlife." |
