Lindsey Best |
Independence High School junior Lindsey Best has been named the school's 2010-2011 Academic All-Star. Administrators say Lindsey was chosen for the award because of her hard work in the classroom and her generous attitude. Lindsey and her family moved to Middle Tennessee three years ago from Orange County, California. While adjusting to the change in weather has taken some getting used to, Lindsey says she feels right at home among her fellow students at IHS. |
"I really like it here," said Lindsey. "The teachers truly care about their students and I've met a really good group of friends." A self-proclaimed compulsive shopper, Lindsey says she hopes her eye for fashion will one day earn her a living. "I am currently taking the fashion design and textiles class at Independence and I love it," said Best. "So I've decided that when I graduate I want to go to O'More College of Design in Franklin and design clothes." |
KENROSE ELEMENTARY | |
Murphy DePompei |
It's not every day that a fifth grader decides to start a book club. But that's exactly what Kenrose Elementary student Murphy DePompei did earlier this year. Administrators say it's that sort of attitude that made Murphy the perfect choice for Kenrose Elementary School's Academic All-Star. Not only did Murphy co-create the Book Club which now has over a dozen members, but she's also part of the Bus Safety Patrol. |
When it comes to school, Murphy says her favorite subject is science. "I love learning about how the earth works," said Murphy. "We're studying about matter right now and my teacher explains that really well." Outside of the classroom, Murphy has many hobbies including golf, tennis, swimming and playing the piano. And while it may be years away, Murphy says she already has an idea of what she might like to be when she grows up. "We went to JA BizTown this year and I was the anchor at the TV station," said Murphy. "I really enjoyed that, so I either want to be an anchor on the Today Show or an architect." |
LIPSCOMB ELEMENTARY | |
Maddie Mecurio |
Ten year old Maddie Mecurio is Lipscomb Elementary School's Academic All-Star for the 2010-11 school year. Principal Michelle Contich says Maddie was chosen for this honor because of her outstanding attitude and work ethic. "Maddie is respectful to her teacher and classmates," said Contich. "She takes pride in her school work and completes all her assignments on time and with enthusiasm." |
Maddie began attending Lipscomb in pre-kindergarten and says she loves everything about the school, especially the teachers. Her favorite subjects are social studies and reading. As for life after school, Maddie says she already has an idea of what she wants to do as an adult. "I have lots of things I want to be when I grow up," said Maddie. "I want to be a school teacher, a fashion designer, an interior designer and a dance teacher." |
