Sophie Matthews

She's only lived in Tennessee for a couple of years, but fifth grader Sophie Matthews has made quite an impression on her classmates and teachers at Pinewood Elementary School. 

Principal Joan Tidwell recently chose Sophie as Pinewood's Academic All-Star.  "Sophie Matthews is a fifth grader who is very respectful to adults and her peers," said Tidwell.  "She is a high-achieving student who always exceeds expectations.

Sophie and her family moved to Middle Tennessee from California when she was in third grade. Sophie says she loves attending Pinewood because of all the wonderful teachers. 

When she's not in school, Sophie enjoys helping out her parents at home.  "We live on a farm," said Sophie.  "We raise pigs, goats, a horse, a cow and a lot of chickens so there's always something to do."

As for what she wants to do when she grows up, Sophie says she's in no rush to make a decision.  "I really don't know what I want to be when I'm older," said Sophie.  "There are too many options."
