Academic All-Stars
Published October 14, 2010
Welcome to a brand new feature of IN FOCUS called Academic All-Stars. The purpose of this section is to highlight students from each school for their academic achievements. Each Academic All-Star will be chosen by his or her principal. This week's Academic All-Stars come to us from Allendale Elementary and Brentwood High schools.
ALLENDALE ELEMENTARY | |
Joshua Remillard |
Third grade student Joshua Remillard is Allendale Elementary School's Academic All-Star. Joshua's principal, Dr. Melonye Lowe, chose him for this honor because of a unique talent. "Joshua recently made an animated video as our school-wide introduction to October's character word, which was responsibility," said Lowe. "His video was presented at our school-wide morning meeting on October 1 and he's already working on the video for November." |
Joshua says he taught himself how to make the animated videos after watching cartoons online. When he's not making videos, Joshua likes to either play video games or hang out with friends. But more than anything, Joshua enjoys the creativity that comes with making his own videos. "It just makes me feel good," said Joshua. "Usually, I don't have a lot of patience but my mom and dad say I can work on a video for hours." Select this LINK to view Joshua's animated video. |
BRENTWOOD HIGH | |
Kelsey McCormack |
Senior Kelsey McCormack is Brentwood High School's Academic All-Star. In her four years at BHS, Kelsey has managed to maintain a stellar 4.1 GPA. "It has taken a lot of hard work," said Kelsey. "You've really got to pay attention in school and make sure you get all of your homework done on time and study." Outside of the classroom, Kelsey enjoys hanging out with friends, competing on the school's cheerleading squad and listening to music. |
While she hasn't decided which college she plans to attend, Kelsey says she's looking forward to continuing her education at the next level. "I'm applying to a bunch of colleges," said Kelsey. "I definitely want to study either pre-law or pre-med." |
