2011 Model Teachers Chosen

Published January 6,  2011

Eighteen of the district's best and brightest educators were recently chosen to serve as model teachers for the spring and summer of 2011.

Each teacher was nominated for the honor because he or she represents a model of exemplary teaching. Following the nomination, each educator was observed in his or her classroom by the curriculum specialists, who then presented the nominees to a district panel.

These model teachers were trained in a half-day session January 6 with the Curriculum Specialists and the District Mentors.

During this training they will learn the role of the model teacher:

  • Model best practices in instruction and classroom management for observing teachers.
  • Confer following visits.
  • Assist in facilitating professional development.
  • Assist in developing district curriculum.

These model teachers will act as role models and mentors for other teachers, and assist teachers who need or would like to learn more about improving their:

  • Classroom management
  • Techniques for student engagement
  • Understanding and implementation of best-practice instruction
  • Instructional strategies
  • Differentiation techniques
