Walnut Grove Dedicates New Walking Track

Over 300 students and parents celebrated the dedication of a new walking track this week at Walnut Grove Elementary School. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held April 27 before the school's annual Fun Run.
The PTA raised $32,000 to build the track, which is eight feet wide and a quarter-mile in length. The money for the track was raised primarily through voluntary donations. It's part of an ongoing effort to teach students the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
"We're just trying to focus on a healthier initiative," said former Walnut Grove PTA President Jenny Webb. "We want the students to really start thinking about things like exercise and healthy eating habits."
One group that is sure to get plenty of use out of the new walking track is the Walnut Grove Walking Club. The club has over 60 members and meets twice a week before school so students can exercise for 30 minutes.
"The kids are really excited about it," said Webb. "We think this is one thing that will benefit not only the entire school but the community as well."
