Teen Read Week at Page Middle

Published October 29, 2009

The students and staff at Page Middle School celebrated Teen Read Week this year by holding a book drive. Started in 1998, Teen Read Week is an annual celebration that's designed to encourage teenagers to put down the video games and and pick up a book. This year, Teen Read Week was held October 18-24 with the theme Read Beyond Reality at your Library.

While many schools celebrate Teen Read Week, Page Middle School librarian Julie Caudle wanted to do something different so she organized a book drive. "I thought it would be a good idea so I called up the director of the Alternative Learning Center and asked if she would be interested in receiving donated books."

In less than two weeks, Page Middle School collected several dozen books for the ALC. It's an effort Caudle would like to continue in the years to come. "I'd like to make this an annual event," said Caudle. "I'm hoping the ALC will have its own library someday."
