Published September 17, 2009

Would you like to make a difference in a child’s life?  Children who have disabilities are often in need of special education services and if they are without parents they are entitled to the appointment of a surrogate parent as mandated by federal law to represent their needs.

Who is Eligible to be a Surrogate Parent:

  • Adults over the age of 18 who are interested in helping represent a child’s needs for services and develop plans with service providers to meet those needs in the absence of their parents.
  • Someone who is not an employee of Williamson County Schools.
  • Someone with knowledge and skills that would ensure adequate representation for a child.
