Sunset and Kenrose Team Up for Clothing Drive
Published December 3, 2009
It's become something of an annual tradition for the students and staff at Kenrose and Sunset elementary schools. Each year, they team up for a clothing drive which benefits the students at Glenview Elementary in Nashville. Many of the children at Glenview are from families who cannot afford new clothes.
After weeks of collecting everything from shoes to shirts to winter coats, student council members and parents from both schools arrived at Glenview with enough clothes for 600 students.
One-by-one the students from Glenview were led into the gym where they were allowed to pick out a few of the clothing items.
“You would not believe how happy the kids were to get a sweatshirt or pair of shoes," said Sunset fifth grader Nic Alexander. "The smiles on their faces made our day. They had as much fun getting clothes and we had giving them out."
The event has even inspired other schools to hold their own clothing drive. Scales Elementary School recently organized its own event called The Mustang Closet in which they collected and donated clothing to Warner Elementary in Nashville.
