Special Education Services Survey Results
Published January 7, 2010
Last spring, the Special Education Services Parent Advisory Council sent a survey to all parents of students with disabilities. The purpose of the survey was to gain information on what parents need in terms of information, training and support.
By the end of the school year, the council had received 351 responses for a return rate of eight percent. Below you will find a list of the six topics parents were most interested in learning more about according to the survey:
- The services my child might receive in the future. (45%)
- Programs, camps and schools (including ESY) available in summer months. (33%)
- The services presently available to my child. (32%)
- Creating a long term plan for my child. (28%)
- Reading materials about other parents who have a child similar to mine. (28%)
- How to teach my child. (26%)
The results suggest parents of special needs students are interested in learning more about the services offered to and available for their children, as well as learning about other parents in similar situations. If you are interested in other information that was obtained from the survey, it can be accessed by going to the Special Education Services website and selecting the link that reads 2009 Parent Survey Results.
