School Mascot Chosen

Published February 4, 2010

It's official: Pearre Creek Elementary School's new mascot will be the panther and its school colors will be silver and black. Principal Beth Ferguson made the announcement last month following a week-long process in which members of the community were asked to submit ideas.

"I received 22 nominations," said Ferguson, "which included the colts, coyotes, crawdads and panthers. More than 100 families voted and the community clearly chose the Pearre Creek panthers."

Pearre Creek is one of three new schools that will open in August. It is being built in the Westhaven subdivision of west Franklin and will initially serve 300-450 students. Ferguson is currently working to assemble a staff and says she's thrilled by what the future might hold.

"I am very excited to lead the Pearre Creek panthers," said Ferguson. "Parents, students and community members are already on the prowl as we work together to create an excellent learning environment."

Ferguson wants to inform parents about a community meeting which will be held Thursday, February 4 at 6 p.m. at the Williamson County Public Library. Anyone with questions about the new school is urged to attend.
