Prom Fashion Show

Published February 4, 2010

For teenagers, prom is a major milestone full of excitement and wonder. Each year, thousands of Williamson County high school students participate in this special rite of passage. And while the night itself is often full of joy, the process of planning for prom can be a real headache.

That's why Centennial High School is inviting students from across the district to be part of its annual Prom Fashion Show and Fair. The show will be held Wednesday, February 24, and will give students and parents the opportunity to check out a wide variety of dresses, gowns and tuxedos.

"This year's fashion show is going to be really special, said Centennial High teacher Beth Bivins. "All of the dresses will be provided by David's Bridal and the tuxedos will be from Men's Wearhouse."

In addition to showing off all the latest trends in formal wear, the students and staff who take part in the show make it a point to entertain the audience with a few inspirational dance routines.

"We usually have a big opening number," said Bivins. "Then we'll have several groups of students who will each perform a dance routine of some sort. We also try to get the faculty involved as well. It's just a lot of fun."

But this show isn't just for the guys and girls at Centennial. Organizers encourage students from every high school in the district to attend the event, which will be set up similar to a bridal show. Members of the prom committee say they plan to have representatives from local restaurants, limousine companies and beauty salons in attendance.

"The companies will have their booths set up in the hall so that students can ask them questions," said Centennial High School junior Anna Moise. "Many of them will also be giving away coupons and other discounts so it will be great way to students to save some money."

Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to indulge their sweet tooth. A local company called Catering by Betsy will sell desserts during the intermission. Among the treats for sale will be tiramisu, fruit tarts and a chocolate molten cake.

Tickets for the fashion show can be purchased at Centennial High School for $7. For an extra $5, students can purchase a VIP ticket which will include special seating, a dessert and coffee or tea. All of the proceeds from the event will go toward the 2010 Centennial High School Prom.
