A leader has been named for the new south high school that will open in August of 2011. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney has named Dr. Charles Farmer as principal.

Farmer is in his second year as principal of Greenville High in Greenville, Alabama. He served as assistant principal at Opelika High School for two years prior. Farmer has taught at the high school level in Florida, Georgia and Alabama and at the college level through Auburn University.

"Charles has knowledge of and experience in all aspects of high school from instruction to discipline to making the transition to higher learning," said Looney. "He is a people person who will build strong relationships throughout the school community."

Farmer is moving back to his roots with his wife and five year old son. He is originally from Murfreesboro. "The move to Williamson County is a family decision for us," said Farmer. "I know the quality of life and education that Williamson County offers. Rachel and I are excited and feel blessed to be given the opportunity to be part of the community."

Genuineness and building relationships are two of Farmer's strength. "I believe these attributes are paramount in starting a school from the ground up," said Farmer. "I look forward to working with the people in the Thompson's Station and Spring Hill areas to accomplish our common goal - preparing students to excel in an ever-changing world."

Farmer holds Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Secondary Social Science Education degrees from Auburn University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Florida State University.

He will begin his new role July 1.
