New Guidelines Now in Effect for End of Course Tests
Published December 3, 2009
New state guidelines are in effect for all End of Course tests. The Williamson County Board of Education recently reviewed and discussed these state guidelines along with those board polices that are affected by them. As a result, several board polices were affected. Here are the highlights:
Five new state End of Course Exams will be implemented immediately. They include Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology I and U.S. History (including students enrolled in AP US History). These will count as the semester final exams (beginning in December).
- Effectively immediately, all final and semester exams (state EOCs, CCEs, and teacher-developed) will count for 20-percent of the student’s second semester average.
- Algebra I, English II and Biology I will be given across the state on a specific date: May 4, 5, and 6th. These three EOCs have 55 items each and are untimed tests. These exams are the ones figured in AYP data.
- The other two EOC exams (English I and US History) will be given on May 5 this year. The English exam has 65 items and a 110 minute time limit; the U.S. History exam has 60 items and a 75 minute time limit.
- For item samplers and practice tests on the state EOC exams, go to: http://www.state.tn.us/education/assessment/sec_samplers.shtml.
All other core courses will have a district-developed CCE final exam as they have in the past. These will be given during finals week and will have 25 items. They are to be completed during the two-hour exam period along with a teacher and/or school created exam. The CCE score and the teacher/school created final exam score each count as 50-percent of the students’ final exam grade.
