National Merit Finalists

Published June 24, 2010

Sixteen Williamson County students were named finalists for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.  Of the nearly 1.5 million entries, only 15,000 students nationwide earn this prestigious honor each year.

In order to become a finalist, high school students must score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and meet other high standards set forth by the program.  The students are listed in alphabetical order according to school.  Choose from the links below to view the finalists for a specific school.

Wendy Bargatze really encouraged me to learn and challenge myself.  She also deeply cared for her students.  I lost both my grandmother and dog that year and she was very sympathetic and comforting.  One day in class she read us a story about a young child whose grandmother had died and the mother’s comforting words to the child were also a great comfort to me.  Ms. Bargatze let me keep the book for a while so I could share the story with my family, especially my little sister.

FRANKLIN HIGH

  Nicole DePeri

Parents:
Dean & Robbi DePeri

A Williamson County teacher that has influenced you:
Raymond Scheetz was my AP U.S. History teacher last year.  As that is not really my favorite area of study (I find European History far more interesting), I expected to spend the year in extreme boredom.  However, that was simply not the case.  Mr. Scheetz's obvious love of the topic, as well as his ability to explain the day's lesson to our class in a way that we clearly understood, made me enjoy the class far more than I initially expected to.  Mr. Scheetz is also the teacher sponsor of Franklin's mock trial team, which I have been a member of the past two years.  He has had a huge impact on me in the past two years and is one of the main reasons that I want to become a teacher.
