Mike Looney Begins Job as WCS Superintendent

Published December 3, 2009

He's only been on the job a few days, but Williamson County's new Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mike Looney, is already hard at work. Looney began his first day on the job December 1. Since then he has already found the time to meet with senior staff members, central office employees and administrators and PTO presidents from each school in the district.

His first day on the job began with a meeting among senior staff members at the central office. Looney told them he plans to spend the next few weeks touring every school in the district and meeting with educators.

"The work that occurs in classrooms and schools is what will drive all decisions during my tenure," said Looney. "My first and last priority will be to support this work, to protect it and to foster continued improvement. Therefore, I want to see firsthand what it looks like as we begin this journey."

As a way of welcoming Looney to the district, the Board of Education held a reception in his honor December 1. The event gave administrators, teachers and community members an opportunity to meet Looney who says he's excited to be on the job.

"I look forward to meeting with Williamson County parents and educators and working together to make this exceptional school district even stronger."
