Local Teams Win State Titles

Several Williamson County schools will add some new hardware to their trophy case after winning state titles at this year's TSSAA Spring Fling.

From tennis to track, Williamson County athletes made their presence felt at the annual high school state championships in Murfreesboro. 

Below is a list of some of the teams and athletes that won state titles.

TENNIS

Brentwood Boys:  The Bruins defeated McMinn County to win the Class AAA Championship.

Ravenwood Girls:  The Lady Raptors won the school’s first girls state championship with a 4-2 win over White Station.

Kaylene Chadwell:  The Centennial junior won the Class AAA Girls Singles title with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Shelbyville's Mallory Hutton.

Sean Karl:  The Ravenwood freshman defeated Cookeville senior Joseph Proctor 6-1, 6-0 to win the Class AAA Boys Singles title.

Lauren Caballero & Madison Stankevich:  The Ravenwood sophomores easily won the Class AAA Girls Doubles title over Anna Fuhrman and Louise Powers of Rossview.

TRACK

Brentwood Boys:  The Bruins outscored Houston 61-58 for the Class AAA championship.

Independence 4x200 Relay Team:  Won the state championship with a time of 1:27:94.

Independence 4x400 Relay Team:  Won the state championship with a time of 3:20:00.

Ford Bell:  The Brentwood senior won the Class AAA 800 meter run championship with a time of 1:53:89.

Kevin Lazas:  The Brentwood High School senior won his second consecutive Class AAA Decathlon championship with a score of 6,510.

Steve Wade:  The Brentwood junior won the Class AAA Shot-put championship with a distance of 56' 7 1/2".
