Information Sessions about Zoning Announced for New Schools

Published October 29, 2009

Information sessions regarding proposed zone lines for three new schools will be held in early November. The proposals will be presented to the Williamson County Board of Education at its work session November 5, and the Board will vote on the new zone lines at its regular monthly meeting November 16.

The come-and-go information session for the west Franklin elementary will be held Monday, November 9 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Walnut Grove Elementary cafetorium. The session for the new south elementary and south middle schools will be held Tuesday, November 10 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Heritage Middle School library. Parents are encouraged to attend. Maps will be available to review, and parents will have the opportunity to talk with staff and Board members.

The Board recently established zoning parameters for the three new schools that will open in August 2010.  The elementary schools will open with grades K-5, maintain feeder patterns as much as possible, and follow current grandfathering policies.

The south elementary school will have an initial enrollment of 500-650 students and will result in the rezoning of some students who attend Heritage, Longview and Chapman’s Retreat elementary schools.

The west Franklin elementary school will initially serve 300-450 students and will result in the rezoning of some students who attend Walnut Grove Elementary and possibly some students currently zoned for Winstead Elementary.

The middle school will open with sixth through eighth grades. The Board plans to follow current grandfathering policies and establish a feeder pattern for the new high school in the southern part of the county. In addition, Chapman’s Retreat and the new south elementary school will become feeder schools for the new south middle school. Heritage Elementary and Longview will be the feeder schools for Heritage Middle. Many students attending Heritage Middle will be rezoned to the new school.
