WCS Director Announces Future Plans

Published August 28, 2008

Director of Schools Dr. Rebecca Sharber announced to School Board members that she will not be seeking an extension of her contract nor will she seek a new contract with the Board. She made the announcement during the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, August 18. She told the group that she is actively seeking other job opportunities and that she will give the Board 30 days notice when she finds other employment or will work through the remainder of her contract which expires June 30, 2009.

The entire text from her memo is listed below:

I am notifying you, the Williamson County Board of Education, that I will not be seeking an extension of my contract, nor will I be seeking a new contract with this Board of Education. I am currently in the process of making application for a new position.

I am supplying you with this notice at this time for the following reasons:

1)  I want to be able to freely seek a new position without concern or secrecy.

2)  The Board will now have ample time to put into place and implement a process to select a new Director of Schools.

I will continue to devote my full time, abilities, knowledge, and skills exclusively to this district until I either secure a new position, at which time I will give the Board the contractual 30 day notice, or until June 30, 2009, when my contract with you ends, whichever comes first.

This announcement will probably be surprising to many people in the community and within the district. I ask that the community and district personnel support me in this decision. I am not prepared to answer any questions at this time, but if you should have any, please feel free to call me at the office.
