Student Television Awards

Williamson County Schools were well represented April 16 at this year's Student Television Awards for Excellence in Nashville. The awards are given out by the Midsouth Regional Chapter of the Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which is the same organization that produces the Emmy Awards.

The annual awards were judged by TV professionals and handed out in seven categories including news, craft achievement and sports. News Channel 5 Meteorologist Lelan Statom hosted the event, which featured winners from across Tennessee and North Carolina.

Centennial High School won the Emmy for News.

Centennial High School earned honorable mentions in three categories: Craft Achievement; Long Form; and Sports. Centennial also won the News Emmy for Morning Rawr, the school's fast-paced morning announcement show. Centennial High School's media production teacher is Dawn Marek.

IHS students Jonathan Wilson and Ernie Overton won the Emmy for Public Affairs.
Independence High School swept the Public Affairs category, earning two honorable mentions and winning the first place award for a commercial produced by Jonathan Wilson and Ernie Overton. Independence also earned an honorable mention in the News category for its program Indy News. Independence High School's media production teacher is Matt Balzer.

RHS senior Jessica Trevett won the Emmy for Arts & Entertainment.
Ravenwood High School also captured several awards. The Raptors received an honorable mention in the Long Form category. In addition, Ravenwood senior Jessica Trevett won the first place award in the Arts & Entertainment category for a music video she produced titled Silhouettes. Ravenwood High School's media production teacher is Sara Sweitzer.
