New Graduation Requirements

Published December 4, 2008

Parents of seventh and eighth grade students in Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District can expect to receive a DVD explaining the State’s new graduation requirements during the week of December 15.  The DVDs will be sent home with students in a clearly labeled, 6” by 9” envelope.  In addition, both districts will use their phone notification systems to remind parents to be on the lookout for the DVD.

The new graduation requirements will begin with the class of 2013, current eighth grade students.  The video explains the changes, shows registration scenarios and tells parents how to get more information prior to the high school registration process which will begin after the first of the year for rising ninth graders.

“The new requirements affect students currently enrolled in middle schools but do not affect students already enrolled in a Williamson County high school,” said Kate Donnelly, curriculum specialist.  “We encourage parents to view a scenario that represents their child’s middle school experience and then visit our web site to learn more information.  It’s important that parents have this information as soon as possible so they can help their child make informed decisions during registration.”

Frequently asked questions, course information and more will be available on the district web site, www.wcs.edu, after December 15.
