Dual Enrollment at MTSU

Published October 23, 2008

Williamson County high school juniors and seniors can now earn college credit from the comfort of their own home. Middle Tennessee State University is offering online courses to students who qualify for the school's EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM. This dual enrollment opportunity is available to high school juniors and seniors with a 3.0 grade point average or higher, plus a minimum score of 22 on the ACT.

Students interested in this exciting opportunity should go ahead and apply for admission now. "The earlier students apply, the better," says MTSU Early College Program Coordinator Molly Culbreath. "Students who go ahead and apply now can save themselves a lot of unnecessary stress in the long run."

Parents and students can APPLY ONLINE for a one-time fee of $25. The application fee must be mailed in or brought to the admissions office in person. After a student applies, the student should have his or her high school guidance counselor send the student's transcript and ACT scores to MTSU as soon as possible. It generally takes two or three weeks to find out if a student has been accepted.

This Spring, MTSU will offer an online course in PERSONAL FINANCE which will teach students how to examine investment opportunities and design a personal financial plan. Because this course is being offered by the Early College Program, students will not have to pay any additional program fees. In addition, the TN Lottery will fund $300 of the course cost.

If admitted by MTSU, high school juniors and seniors can also register for any course that does not require pre-requisites, such as Intro to Aerospace. However, those students will have to pay the additional program fees. To find out which courses will be offered during the Spring 2009 semester, students can go to RAIDERNET and search for the class they are interested in.
