Barefoot Day at Page High
Published November 6, 2008
On October 28, dozens of students at Page High School took off their shoes for an event called Barefoot Day. This special assembly was the culmination of a month long service project between Page High School's DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) program and a Nashville-based charity organization called Soles4Souls, which provides shoes to needy men, women and children around the world.
In the weeks leading up to October 28, Page High School's marketing students organized a shoe drive in an attempt to collect as many pairs of new or gently-used sneakers as possible. The students also collected monetary donations, which were later given to Soles4Souls on behalf of the DECA program.
The fundraising effort concluded October 28 with Barefoot Day. On this day, all Page High School students were given the opportunity to gather on the football field and donate their shoes to this worthwhile cause. The event was attended by the Tennessee Titan's All-Pro Safety and Soles4Souls spokesman Chris Hope, who spoke to the students about the Soles4Souls mission and thanked them for their contribution.
