Westwood Principal Receives Award
Published November 8, 2007
Westwood Elementary Principal Nancy Simpkins has been selected as one of only two principals in the State who will receive the 2007 Administrator’s Honor Roll award from the Tennessee Association of School Librarians. The official recognition will be presented to Simpkins at the Volunteer State Book Award Dinner on November 16.
In order to be nominated for this award an individual must be instrumental in the completion of some activity that enhances a school library media program. Westwood Librarian Teresa Barnhill nominated Simpkins because of her dedication to making the library a place where students can encounter rich literature. Barnhill says Simpkins found ways to enhance the school’s funding so that the library could afford to add to its collection. In the past three years, the Westwood library increased its holdings by 3,000 books.
