WCS Technology Literacy

When it comes to operating computers, creating spreadsheets, and using multimedia, Williamson County middle school students are ahead of the curve. According to a recent study, Williamson County middle schools tested above the national average for technology literacy. The results are measured in seven different areas including system fundamentals, word-processing and multimedia use. The point of the study is to determine how well the students can perform tasks like creating Power Point presentations, collecting information in the form of spreadsheets and exhibiting a sound knowledge of copyright laws and safety issues. Williamson County students scored the strongest results in the category of telecommunications access, which measures the students' ability to use the internet.
Williamson County Schools Instructional Technology Coordinator Belinda Moss says the results from this year's study show some improvement over last year. "We are very pleased with our improvement in technology literacy but our ultimate goal is to have 100 percent tech literacy." And while there are still some students who need support, Moss says there are district procedures in place to make sure all students are tech literate before they leave high school.
