WCS Teacher Surprises Hannah Montana

Published January 10, 2008

A Williamson County teacher recently found herself caught up in the phenomenon known as Hannah Montana. Heritage Elementary Teacher Nancy Sevier traveled to Illinois in December to surprise Miley Cyrus during an event at the Rosemont Theater. Sevier taught the pop singing sensation when Cyrus was a second grader at Heritage. Cyrus says Sevier is her all-time favorite teacher.

The Hannah Montana star, and daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, was in Chicago to perform a sold-out concert at Allstate Arena.

Hours before the show, Cyrus presented a check for $1,000,000 on behalf of Office Max to a program known as Adopt-A-Classroom. Adopt-A-Classroom provides teachers with funds necessary to purchase school supplies.

During the presentation, Cyrus was surprised when her favorite teacher joined her on the stage. "If it wasn't for Mrs. Sevier, I wouldn't be here today," said Cyrus. She credits Sevier with encouraging her to follow her hopes and dreams. "Miley has always been very talented," said Sevier. "In second grade, she wrote poetry, and she was very musical." Sevier even surprised Cyrus by revealing some of her former pupil's second grade artwork. Sevier says her trip to Chicago was an amazing experience that she will never forget.
