Some familiar faces will be serving in different schools across the district next year. Kenrose Elementary Principal Mike Parman will be leading Hunters Bend Elementary next year while Independence Principal Dr. Marilyn Webb will take over at Kenrose. Assistant Principal Julie Sparrow will be the new principal at Edmondson Elementary and Oak View and Crockett Assistant Principal Dr. Laura LaChance will be the new principal at Heritage Elementary. Page High Assistant Principal Dr. Tim Brown will take over as principal at Sunset Elementary next year.
“With the retirements of Marvin Wells, Edmondson Elementary, and Lynn Winters, Sunset Elementary, and the resignations of Laci Coppins, Hunters Bend Elementary, and Jack West, Heritage Elementary, we knew we would need to move some current leaders to different positions and promote some of our assistant principals,” said Superintendent Rebecca Sharber. “We are fortunate to have many seasoned educators to fill needed positions, and we have also worked hard to prepare our assistant principals to step into top leadership roles when called upon to do so. These principals are top notch educators.”
Mike Parman has been with Williamson County Schools for the past 26 years and has worked in the field of education for 32 years. He has served as principal at Pinewood, Bethesda and Kenrose.
“I’ve been at Kenrose for quite awhile and have developed many strong friendships,” said Parman. “I will miss working with the Kenrose faculty and families, but I've heard great things about the students, parents, and faculty at Hunters Bend. I look forward to meeting all of them, and I know that working together we can uphold the tradition of excellence at Hunters Bend.”
Dr. Marilyn Webb is moving to Kenrose Elementary next year after five years at Independence. She is returning to her roots, so to speak, as she was the first principal named to Kenrose, but moved to the Central Office to serve as Elementary Schools Director before the school opened. Webb has been with the district since 1993 when she opened Oak View Elementary as its first principal.
“I have always been a person who enjoys challenges,” said Webb. “I have loved being the principal at Independence; however, for some time now I have known that there would come a time when I would want to change my lifestyle and have a position that would allow me to devote not quite so much time to school and more time to my family, including my first grandchild scheduled to arrive in June. That time has come, and I have requested to move to an elementary school principalship; and I’m thrilled to be going to Kenrose.”
Edmondson’s new principal has been serving as assistant principal there and at Lipscomb Elementary for the past five years. Prior to that time, Julie Sparrow was a kindergarten and fourth grade teacher at Scales Elementary. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership both from Middle Tennessee State University.
“I am excited about continuing my work with the Edmondson community in my new role,” said Sparrow. “Edmondson has a dedicated faculty, outstanding parental support, and hard working students. I am honored to have been selected as principal of such a wonderful learning community.”
Dr. LaChance has ten years of elementary teaching experience and has served as an assistant principal at Crockett and Oak View elementary schools over the past two years. In addition, she is a nationally board certified teacher and assisted in mentoring 35 Williamson County teachers through the national board certification process this year. Prior to teaching, she worked in the counseling field for 10 years.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to work at Heritage Elementary School,” said LaChance. “I have heard such wonderful things about the dedicated teachers, the extraordinary students, and the supportive parent community. I am thrilled about joining the Heritage team.”
LaChance received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Auburn University, her Master’s in Education from the University of Saint Mary, and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Capella University.
Brown will be returning to his background in elementary education after most recently serving at the secondary level. He has been assistant principal at Page High for the past seven years. Prior to that time he was a science teacher and an assistant principal at Brentwood Middle. In addition he has taught at the elementary and middle school levels in Kentucky and Tennessee. Brown also served nine years as an officer in the U.S. Army, and he is a veteran of Desert Storm.
“I am so pleased to be returning to my roots in elementary education and very excited to be joining the Sunset community,” said Brown. “I look forward to meeting the staff, students and families at Sunset Elementary and to begin working together to continue the great success that the school already has established.”
Brown received his Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from The University of the Cumberlands, his Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University, and his Doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University.
All positions become effective July 1, 2008.
