Shoes for Africa

Published September 20, 2007

Students at Hunters Bend Elementary are doing their part to make the world a better place. The school held a tennis shoe drive September 11 through September 13. Hunters Bend Elementary is teaming with Tri-Athletes for Africa to provide shoes for children and adults in Africa. During the three day shoe drive, parents and teachers donated gently-used running shoes and crocs. The school collected 748 pairs of shoes.

In addition to helping people in Africa, the shoe drive is also teaching the students about the importance of helping others. “As our Hunters Bend Elementary School families brought shoes to school, the interior of the building was lined, allowing the boys and girls to truly see the impact they are making halfway around the world,” said Principal Laci Coppins.
