PTO Meetings a Success

Published September 20, 2007

Each semester, Director of Schools Dr. Rebecca Sharber meets with the principals and PTO presidents.  The meetings are divided between elementary, middle and high schools.  It’s an opportunity for Dr. Sharber to thank parents for their tireless dedication.  It’s also a chance for the parents and principals to communicate and share ideas for improvement.

This year, the meetings were held during the week of September 10.  Dr. Sharber began each gathering with a back to school update.  Some of the other topics of discussion included a new state law on fundraising, as well as an update on growth and construction in the county.

"The PTO meetings with Dr. Sharber are extremely beneficial," said Kenrose Elementary PTO President Ann Rankin. "They provide a forum in which ideas can be shared, questions can be answered and concerns can be addressed."

Fairview High PTO President Kim Allison agrees.  She says, "It is a great way to learn more in depth about the school system.  It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet other volunteers and share ideas to better our schools."

"Meeting with Dr. Sharber in a group setting helps facilitate better communication between the Central Office and a school's PTO," said Page Middle PTO Co-President Deb Phelps.  "It also provides an excellent opportunity to share ideas among fellow PTO Presidents."

The next round of meetings will be held in the spring.
