Holiday Service Projects

Many Williamson County Schools are helping those in need this holiday season. Whether they're collecting canned goods or volunteering their time, it's obvious that Williamson County students are eager to help out the community.
Below is a list of which schools have taken or are still taking donations. This list is not all-inclusive. Please check with your school for additional information to see if they are holding any drives this holiday season.
Bethesda Elementary: Students collected 5,863 items during a November food drive. A local food pantry will help distribute the food to the needy.
Brentwood High: Students collected canned goods and non-perishable food items during a recent food drive.
Brentwood Middle: Families and students can donate toys and other items through December 15. The gifts will go to the Salvation Army, which will distribute them to the needy.
Centennial High: The Student Council is operating the Cougar Food Bank through December 14. Students are encouraged to bring in canned goods and other non-perishable food items. The Early Childhood Development classes are also collecting toys for Graceworks.
Crockett Elementary: Items collected during a recent food and toy drive will be donated to Graceworks.
Edmondson Elementary: Kindergarten, first and second grade students collected toys, art supplies and other items to be delivered to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Third graders are supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, while students in fifth grade are collecting donations for the Mobile Loaves and Fishes project.
Fairview High: Students can donate canned goods and other non-perishable food items through December 18. First Baptist Church will help deliver the food to the needy.
Franklin High: Students are filling backpacks with food to be given to the needy. They are also participating in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program, through which they will provide toys and other items for 48 children.
Grassland Elementary: The school will collect clothes and other items to be given to the less fortunate through December 19.
Grassland Middle: The National Junior Honor Society will sell candy canes through December 20 with the money going toward helping soldiers in Iraq. Another group, Generals at Work, is making baskets full of goodies to be delivered to local nursing homes.
Heritage Elementary: Students will collect mittens, coats and other types of winter clothing through December 21. The items will be given to a children's shelter.
Heritage Middle: Families and students can donate canned goods and other non-perishable food items for a food drive that will end December 20. Second Harvest Food Bank will distribute the food to the needy.
Hillsboro K-8: The student council will collect food and other household items through December 14. The food will then go to a local pantry for distribution.
Hunters Bend Elementary: Students are collecting gloves that will be given to Room in the Inn, a charity dedicated to helping the homeless. They are also providing gifts to an underprivileged student at Haywood Elementary School in Nashville and making cards to be delivered to nursing homes, soldiers overseas and ill relatives.
Independence High: Students collected more than 1,200 toys during a recent toy drive. The items will be delivered to needy children throughout Williamson County.
Kenrose Elementary: During a recent toy drive, students collected more than 500 toys for the less fortunate. They are also donating socks, mittens and hats to the Martha O'Bryan Center.
Lipscomb Elementary: Classrooms adopted local families and are providing them with toys, food and other items for the holidays.
Nolensville Elementary: Students participated in a toy drive that ended December 6. The toys will be given to a group called Youth Encouragement Services which is dedicated to enriching the lives of children in Nashville.
Oak View Elementary: A recent toy drive will benefit the families of Ft. Campbell soldiers serving overseas. The school also collected food for Graceworks.
Page High: A number of school clubs are helping those in need. Some of the clubs donated food baskets to needy families while others collected toys for the less fortunate. In addition, some students plan to serve breakfast at the Nashville Rescue Mission December 22.
Pinewood Elementary: The school is working with local churches to deliver shoes, coats and other winter clothing to the needy. They also plan to deliver baskets of food to the less fortunate.
Ravenwood High: Students collected more than 6,000 food items during the Food2Families High School Challenge earlier this year. Second Harvest Food Bank will help deliver the food to those in need. Ravenwood is also taking part in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.
Scales Elementary: The school collected canned goods during a food drive in November. Scales is working with Graceworks to distribute the items. They also collected many coats and other types of winter wear during a recent coat drive.
Sunset Elementary: Each grade level is collecting clothing and toys for needy families. You can drop off your donations at the school through December 20.
Sunset Middle: The Student Council collected money to purchase gifts for needy children.
Trinity Elementary: Students collected more than 2,500 cans of food during a recent food drive. The school is working with Graceworks to distribute the items to those in need.
Woodland Elementary: Girl Scouts are collecting winter coats, hats and gloves for the needy through December 20.
