Famous Author Visits HMS

Published January 24, 2008

The students at Heritage Middle School recently spent time with a world-renowned author.  Peter Jenkins is one of America's most popular and celebrated explorers.  His books have sold millions of copies and are used in classrooms across the nation.  Jenkins is best known for his book A Walk Across America which chronicles his five year journey from coast to coast.  Although he has traveled the country and visited every state except Hawaii, the Spring Hill resident says there is no place he would rather live than right here in Williamson County.

On January 23, Jenkins spoke to sixth and seventh grade students at Heritage Middle School.  He shared stories about his many adventures and the people he encountered while walking across the country with his dog Cooper in the 1970's.  Jenkins says he enjoys talking with students and teaching them to follow their dreams.  "I hope that they become sort of excited about the world and not afraid of it," says Jenkins.  "One of the main things is to encourage people not to be afraid of each other."
