Fairview Builds a Dragster
Published December 13, 2007
After months of hard work, the students at Fairview High School are ready to burn some rubber. As part of a new reality TV show called Drag Race High, students in Fairview's automotive technology class spent the last few months building a race car. The car is now finished and will be put to the test December 14 in Florida.
The TV show pits Fairview against East Hickman High School. Both schools were given $10,000 to purchase a used car and turn it into a dragster. Professional race car drivers will race the cars along a quarter-mile dragstrip.
Winners will be based on more than just having the fastest car. Judging criteria will include such concerns as how well the vehicle conforms to the rules, which team has the most donated parts, who raises the most money, which car undergoes the biggest transformation, quality of engine, body work, and paint and many other aspects of car building.
Drag Race High will air on the Speed Channel in February.
