Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Published January 10, 2008
Williamson County high school students will soon have a new opportunity for dual enrollment in college. Beginning next school year, high school juniors and seniors will be able to take college courses at Middle Tennessee State University while fulfilling requirements for their high school diplomas. Classes such as English, math and even a course on aerospace will be made available.
In addition to MTSU, the district has partnerships with Columbia State Community College, Nashville State Community College, O'Moore School of Design and Tennessee Technology Centers. Starting this semester, CSCC will offer a medical terminology course for students interested in a medical career. CSCC also offers a wide range of general education courses like math and science.
"Dual enrollment is an opportunity that all qualified high school students should be taking advantage of," says WCS Career/Tech Coordinator Jackie Baggett. "Dual enrollment helps students get comfortable with the expectations of a college level course."
In order to enroll, students must complete the post secondary school's application and the Dual Enrollment Grant Application with their high school counselor. To apply for the Dual Enrollment Grant, students must receive both high school and college credit for the course.
