An Income of Her Own

Published November 8, 2007

More than a hundred female students from across Williamson County recently received a valuable lesson in the world of business.  An Income of Her Own Entrepreneurship Conference was held October 4 at Old Natchez Country Club.  The purpose of the conference was to introduce the teens to female business owners and encourage them to explore business-ownership as a future career option.

While there, the girls learned how to budget and avoid being in debt.  They also learned the importance of networking as they met with various business owners from across Williamson County.  Perhaps one of the most exciting moments came when the girls were split into groups and given a small box of recycled materials.  The teens were told to use those materials to invent a product and create a mini-business plan.  Each team presented its product and business plan to the whole group at the conclusion of the day.

The Girl Scouts of Middle TN hosted the event, which was attended by 104 students from high schools in Williamson County.
