2007 State Report Card

Williamson County Schools has a lot to be proud of after scoring straight A’s on the annual State Report Card. The yearly report provides a profile of each school district throughout the state, using various standardized assessments and collected statistics to award grades.  The 2007 Report Card is based on performance and statistics from the 2006-07 school year.

Williamson County Director of Schools Dr. Rebecca Sharber attributes the district’s success to both teachers and students.  “We are very proud to be able to say that the district has achieved all A’s in both achievement and value-added for the second year in a row," said Sharber.  "Everyone connected with the district takes learning seriously. We have a few areas for greater concentration and we continue to study the best ways to approach those. We have a great deal to celebrate in the release of this report card.” 

The report card provides a profile of academic achievement, demographics, discipline and graduation rates for the state, each school district and every school.  Grassland Elementary School is among several Williamson County schools that has shown value-added growth over time.  Principal Dr. Ann Gordon says, “We are pleased with our gains at Grassland as reflected on the State Report Card. The GES staff, students, parents and community are committed to working together to achieve excellence in teaching and learning.”

Heritage Middle is another school that continues to improve.  Principal Paula Pulliam says, "Heritage Middle is blessed with dedicated professionals who saw a need for improvement in our focus and instruction.  Focusing upon standards based learning to improve scores as well as crafting lessons and units that are engaging have paid off!  However, having other schools from other districts requesting to visit because of our sustained improvement is the greatest compliment a school can enjoy."

The purpose of this annual report is to make it easier for educators, parents and the public to understand important information about Tennessee’s public schools.  Scales Elementary School Principal Rick West says he plans to use the information to improve teaching in the classroom and raise achievement for students.  “The teachers and staff at Scales are never satisfied with ‘good enough’ – we are always looking for ways to improve our teaching so that we improve ourselves and enrich our students’ learning," said West.  "By continuing to research best practices, and allowing our teachers the time and support to implement their new learning, we are establishing a very strong foundation for many years to come.  And by looking at the data closely, we are able to identify those areas where we can improve and celebrate the areas of success.”
