Williamson County Schools Health Partnership
Published August 17, 2006
The latest news in school health is Williamson County School Health Partnership! Participating schools are: Fairview High, Fairview Middle, Fairview Elementary, Westwood Elementary, Hillsboro, and Pinewood Elementary. This school year Franklin High, Centennial High, Page High, Page Middle, Bethesda Elementary, Trinity Elementary, and College Grove Elementary have been added.
The schools participating in the Partnership may provide, with a parent's permission, a range of the following services:
ü Well child check-ups
ü Immunizations (month of August)
ü Screenings for blood pressure, weight, height, BMI (Body Mass Index)
ü Case management of certain conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, etc.
ü Health education
ü Over-the-counter medications with signed permission provided free of charge
Services will be provided by current school nurses according to public health nursing protocol, signed by the Mid-Cumberland Regional (public health) Physician. The Williamson County Health Department is providing health educators to develop interventions for our students and staff.
Services previously provided in schools will continue to be provided free of charge. The procedures for administration of regularly scheduled medication are unchanged. If parents choose not to participate in the administration of over-the-counter medications through the health department they can still bring an unopened bottle of the medication for their child to the school nurse.
This is an exciting time for the nurses in Williamson County Schools! All the nurses in our schools are looking forward to a great year of providing for the health of our children. Contact your school nurse if you have any questions regarding health services.
