STAR Gala Raises Money for Williamson County Art Programs

Published January 25, 2007

The Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce's fifth annual STAR Gala has once again raised thousands of dollars for Williamson County arts education. This year's event, themed "A Starry, Starry Night" was held at the Franklin Marriott Hotel and Cool Springs Convention Center January 20. A sellout crowd of 500 guests had a wonderful time all while raising money for arts education in our schools. Organizers are still tallying the total amount of money raised.

One of the night's highlights was a live auction of five items which raised $4,400. One of the items was the Best of Show winner of the STAR Gala's art contest. Ravenwood High School senior Lauren Goodwin donated her piece Change in Perspective and it fetched $700. Wilson County Orthodontist Dr. Shane Witherow purchased the piece and will hang it in his office.

All proceeds from this event support the BCS Chamber Foundation, which supports education in Williamson County through grants and college scholarships.

The STAR Gala's art contest not only featured Lauren Goodwin's Best of Show winner, it featured two award winning pieces of art by other Ravenwood students. Senior Sarah Witham won first prize for her piece, Speed of Light, and freshman Andrea Exil won third place for her piece, Dancer in the Starry Night. All three are taught by Brad LeDuc. The students' prize artwork also earned $500 each for Ravenwood High's art department. Awards of merit were also given to several other Williamson County students:

  • Tameira-Jade Brebner, Franklin High School
  • Alyssa Duncan, Independence High School
  • Margaret Fahey, Battle Ground Academy
