Shining Apple Awards Coming Up April 24

Williamson County Schools’ top volunteers will be honored during the tenth annual Shining Apple Awards ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at the Brentwood Public Library. Honorees in each of five categories will be recognized for service to the students of Williamson County during the event sponsored by the Brentwood Family YMCA on behalf of the Williamson County YMCA Fun Company and the Williamson County Board of Education.
“The Shining Apple reception is a wonderful time to hear the stories of how volunteers are making a difference in the lives of our students and schools,” said Director of Schools Dr. Rebecca Sharber. “We greatly appreciate the continued support we receive from all of our volunteers because we know that community and parental involvement plays a major role in the success of students.”
Volunteers being honored in the Business and Industry category include Buerger, Moseley, & Carson, PLC and Lisa Carson, serving Franklin High, nominated by Bill Boner; CiCi's Pizza and Greg Green and Billy Boyd, Page High, nominated by Maria Deason; Publix and Joe Zarcone, Ravenwood High and Woodland Middle, nominated by Pam Vaden, Jaclyn LeBarton and Priscilla Fizer; Saturn and Renee Salley and Cherie Warren, Heritage Middle, nominated by Christy Norman; and Sonic and Chuck Sugg, Winstead, nominated by Anita Anderson and Julie Lankford.
Those being honored in the category of Civic Organizations include Brentwood Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Lynn Tucker, nominated by Gail Merritt, serving Scales Elementary; Fairview Church of Christ and Robbie Buttrey, nominated by Ann Lewis and Inis McFarlin, Fairview Elementary; Friends Learning in Pairs and Penny Bevilaqua, nominated by Kathy Wells, Hillsboro; Meals on Wheels and Debbie Rainey, nominated by Tony Donen, Fairview High; and Music4TNKids and Suzi Minor, nominated by Gail Merritt, Scales.
Community Volunteers to be honored are James Chittum, serving Centennial and Middle College high schools, nominated by Mary Kay Carter; Mary Clouse, Woodland, nominated by Lenore Brosky; Gene Cotton, Hillsboro, nominated by Tracy Lampley; Jim and Jean Eckert, Trinity, nominated by Karen Lewin; and Jo Shewring, Trinity, nominated by Tracy Eckert.
Teachers as Volunteers nominees include Kawanda Braxton, Franklin High, nominated by Barbara Rogers; Kimberly Connor and Pat Gordon, Grassland Elementary, nominated by Donna Coffman; Marshall Reams, Independence High, nominated by Charles Field; Jennifer Bennett, Alyson Hennecke, and Jessica Morgan, Sunset Elementary, nominated by Lynn Winters; and Mary Jo Pantall, Woodland Middle, nominated by Priscilla Fizer.
Elementary school parents being honored for their service include Alecia Bristow, serving Kenrose, nominated by Diane Huseman; Mimi Esworthy, Scales, nominated by Rick West; Michael Ham, Winstead, nominated by Anita Anderson; Walter and Jeanna Rice, College Grove, nominated by Connie Kinder; and Cheryl Smith, Fairview, nominated by Ann Lewis.
Middle school parents being recognized include Susan Bailey, Heritage, nominated by Paula Pulliam; Joni Donegan, Grassland, nominated by Susan Curtis; Gwen Hudlow, Fairview, nominated by Brian Bass; Randy Pierra, Hillsboro, nominated by Ellen James; and Sherry Saunders, Hillsboro, nominated by Judi Aront.
High school parents include Rita Chamberlain, Brentwood, nominated by Ron Thompson; Dena Doom, Independence, nominated by Sue Ellen Keys; Greg Grant, Ravenwood, nominated by Pam Vaden, Kari Smith and Sara Sweitzer; Robin Harrison, Fairview, nominated by Ricky Jones; and Patti Hinton, Page, nominated by Laurie Mauldin.
Review teams selected the honorees.
