Music Grants Awarded to Several Williamson County Schools

Published October 12, 2006

The music education programs at eight Williamson County schools are getting a big boost from the Brentwood/Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce. The BCS Chamber Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by the Brentwood/Cool Springs Chamber, distributed funds from their annual Gala to benefit educational programs within Williamson County public and private schools.

The Williamson County Schools receiving grants are Chapman's Retreat Elementary, College Grove Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Grassland Elementary, Nolensville Elementary, Page Middle, Pinewood Elementary, and Scales Elementary.

The grants will be used for a wide variety of programs. Just a few examples: Grassland Elementary is using the $750 dollars it received to build dulcimers as part of the "Bluegrass in the Schools" program.

Nolensville Elementary is taking the $600 it received and putting it towards new keyboards for the music room.

"The kids are getting very excited," says Nolensville Elementary Music Specialist Heather Henkel. "We really hope to get started in our keyboards lab after Christmas."

The $1,000 awarded to Fairview Elementary is being used to buy new instruments for music classes. Scales Elementary received $1,200 and will purchase new "Spotlight on Music" audio CD's for first and fourth grade students.

"We are most appreciative of this organization and its commitment to provide funding for the music program in our school," says Scales Elementary Music Specialist Gail Merritt.

Congratulations to each school on receiving these grants!
