Fairview Elementary Names New Principal

Published May 24, 2007

A familiar face is taking over at Fairview Elementary School. Joan Tidwell will be returning as principal, replacing Ann Lewis who is retiring at the end of the school year.

“Joan was the perfect choice for Fairview Elementary,” said Williamson County Schools Director Rebecca Sharber. “She is a member of the community and knows the students and their families; she is still connected to the faculty and staff; and she will continue to build on the success that Fairview Elementary is experiencing.”

Tidwell has been serving as assistant principal at Hunters Bend Elementary for the past two and a half years. She previously served as principal of Fairview Elementary for four years before taking a break in leadership to spend time with her family. Tidwell began her teaching career in 1975 and has taught in Tennessee, South Dakota, and Nebraska. She came to Williamson County as a teacher in 1991. Prior to that time, she spent five years as a corporate trainer including serving as manager of training and development for Opryland Hotel.

“The Fairview community is my home and I cannot express how thankful I am that Dr. Sharber is giving me this opportunity,” said Tidwell. “Working with Hunters Bend staff, students and parents over the past few years has been a wonderful experience, but it’s time for me to be back home at Fairview Elementary.”

Tidwell can often be seen on the district’s cable access channel where she hosts Parent Connection giving parents ideas on ways to make their children more successful in school. In addition, she has been a regular guest on WTVF’s Talk of the Town delivering a similar message.

Tidwell will begin her new responsibilities July 1.
