Fairview Elementary Finalist for National Award
Published September 28, 2006
Fairview Elementary School is one step closer to receiving the Title I Distinguished School Award.
According to the National Association of State Title I Directors, a Distinguished school must demonstrate strengths in the following areas: opportunity for all children to meet proficient and advanced levels of performance, strong professional development, coordination with other programs, curriculum and instruction to support achievement of high standards, and partnerships among schools, parents, and communities. Fairview Elementary presented a packet demonstrating the school's success in each area. The also school submitted achievement data for the last three years to demonstrate improvement; a one-page school description was created; and a listing of recent awards and recognitions was included as well.
A Title I representative visited the school on September 27 and a decision on the award will be made as early as September 29. Fairview Elementary Principal Ann Lewis says the school is one of only six in the state to receive an official visit.
If Fairview Elementary is selected as a distinguished school it will receive a plaque and banner and serve as a model for other Title I schools around the nation. Congratulations to the Fairview Elementary School students, teachers, and parents! We will keep you posted on their progress toward this important milestone.
