Crockett Elementary Student Wins State Contest

Published October 12, 2006

If you eat at Cozymel's Mexican Grill in Brentwood this month, keep an eye out for some artwork by Crockett Elementary fifth grader Karen (Ke) Yang. Ke won the 2005 Tennessee Energy Education Network (TEEN) Placemat Contest. Representatives from TEEN, Cozymel staff, Ke and her parents, and Crockett Elementary Principal Dr. David Hood helped unveil the placemat October 10.

"This program teaches Tennessee's children the importance of energy conservation and we are glad that local businesses are playing a part in educating our children and promoting our valuable energy resources," says Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matthew Kisber. "It's good to see our children commit to this cause and encourage Tennesseans to participate in energy efficient practices."

Ke designed a placemat with the theme "Energy Rocks." In addition to having her placemat displayed at Cozymel's during the month of October in accordance with "Energy Awareness Month," Ke will receive a savings bond.
