Published October 12, 2006
Lots of earth is being moved around as construction crews are making some real progress at the sites of two of Williamson County's newest schools.
Construction at the new Longview Elementary School in Spring Hill is on schedule and about 25 percent complete. All footings are complete, several of the walls are up to load bearing height, and the shape of the building is now clearly visible. The well field for the geothermal HVAC system is complete on the north side of the building. Drillers have staged on the south side to begin the well field. Wells are more than 70 percent complete and all wells should be complete in the next ten days. Site grading, which is the process of clearing off the land and preparing it for the structure, and utilities are 75 percent complete. Longview Elementary School is off Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill.
Meanwhile, construction work on the new Nolensville Elementary School continues to progress as well. All building permits for the project have been secured. Matt Moore, project manager with American Constructors, says that site preparation is 60 percent complete. A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the new school is being planned for Sunday, October 22 at 2 p.m. School board members, County Commissioners and other elected officials along with the Nolensville Elementary School community and friends are invited to attend the ceremony on the construction site at the corner of Newsom Lane and Rocky Ford Road. Parking will be available on site.
